Have you ever wanted something so bad that you ran away from it? You let fear set in. I did too. I wanted to start this blog a long time ago. I had so many ideas and plans. And then came the time to do it..and I panicked.
Suddenly, my idea wasn’t just an idea. I had birthed something- I gave it life! I gave it a title, a theme, a vision. Now it was time to flesh this thing out. It was time to do what I had been talking about for so long. No, let me correct myself; it is time to do what I have been talking about for so long.
The truth is: I let fear overshadow my faith. I came up with every reason not to start this blog right after I came up with my list of reasons why I should. Talk about being counterproductive!
I know in my heart that this is something I am supposed to be doing. No matter what new project I come up with; or what else occupies my time; this is always lingering in the forefront of my mind. I have to stop making excuses and get to it!
Fear is a handicap. It can keep you in a place you are intended to move on from. It causes you to make stupid excuses. Fear will keep you from fulfilling your destiny; if you let it. But, my dears, let me tell you something:
WE WERE NOT MADE TO LIVE IN FEAR
2 Timothy 1:7 sums it up so nicely:
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”
Paul wrote these words to young Timothy encouraging him to continue the work God had called him to do. Paul told Timothy to “stir up the gift of God”. How compelling is that statement?!
Stir Up The Gift
In order to stir something up, it has to already be in you, right? Right! I had to make a choice to dispel my fears. And that’s just what I did. I took all those doubts, fears, and excuses and put them away. Then I jumped! I jumped headfirst into pursuing my dreams- not just this one, either. All of them. I am taking a real leap of faith. And I am not looking back.
God has blessed us all with gifts and talents that we cannot just keep to ourselves. Imagine what you can do once you “stir up” your gifts!
Take some time to identify the things in your life that fear is keeping you from. What gifts can you stir up? It’s time for you to leave your fears behind and jump. Take that leap, my friend!
